TAKHZYRO injection training materials
TAKHZYRO comes in a ready-to-use prefilled syringe and does not require reconstitution or measuring. It is a single subcutaneous (under-the-skin) injection that can be self-administered at home in a minute or less.*
*Most adolescents and adults self-administered TAKHZYRO within 10 to 60 seconds. These injection times are based on vial administration.

Welcome to treatment with TAKHZYRO. Together, you and your healthcare provider have decided that TAKHZYRO is the right preventive option for you.
TAKHZYRO is a single-use, ready-to-use prefilled syringe for injection under the skin (subcutaneous) to be given by your healthcare provider, caregiver, or yourself. Each prefilled syringe contains one 300 mg/2 mL dose. The prefilled syringe is for single use only. This video will familiarize you with your prefilled syringe and how to use it in 4 key steps. Prepare, Select, Inject, Dispose. You can give yourself the TAKHZYRO injection, or a caregiver can administer it for you. Before you take TAKHZYRO for the first time, a doctor, pharmacist, or nurse will show you or your caregiver how to properly prepare and inject TAKHZYRO.
Please see the complete Instructions for Use and the Patient Information insert included in your product carton. Contact your healthcare provider if you have any questions.
Before you get started, get to know the parts of your prefilled syringe: the plunger rod, stopper, syringe barrel with medicine, finger grip, and needle cap. Keep the finger grip on at all times. You’ll see and hear these names throughout the video, so it’s good to be familiar with each part.
The prefilled syringe should be stored in the refrigerator between 36 and 46 degrees Fahrenheit until ready for use. Do not freeze it. Store the prefilled syringe in the original carton to protect it from light. If the syringe has been kept out of the refrigerator, frozen, or not stored in the original carton to protect it from light, throw it away. Do not shake the syringe. Always keep the syringe and all medicines out of reach of children.
When you’re ready, prepare for your injection.
Gather an alcohol swab, a cotton ball or gauze pad, an adhesive bandage, and a sharps disposal container, and place them on a clean, flat surface in a well-lit area.
Next, remove your carton of TAKHZYRO from the refrigerator. Do not use your prefilled syringe if the seal on the carton is open or broken.
Be sure to take the prefilled syringe out of the refrigerator for 15 minutes before injecting. Your medicine is sensitive to warm temperatures. Do not use heat sources such as a microwave or hot water to warm your prefilled syringe.
Open the carton. Holding the syringe barrel, remove the prefilled syringe from the tray. Do not remove the needle cap until you are ready to inject. Take care not to touch or push the plunger rod until you are ready to inject.
While you wait, wash your hands with soap and water, and dry them completely. Also, check the expiration date on the label of your prefilled syringe to ensure it has not passed.
Visually inspect the prefilled syringe for any damage. Do not use the product if the syringe is damaged or cracked. Make sure the medicine is colorless to slightly yellow. Do not administer TAKHZYRO if the medicine is discolored, cloudy, or has flakes or particles in it. You may see air bubbles in your prefilled syringe. This is normal and will not affect your dose. If you cannot use the prefilled syringe, contact your healthcare provider.
Next, choose where you would like to inject TAKHZYRO, and clean the area.
You can choose a spot on your stomach, thighs, or upper arms. The upper arm is recommended only if a healthcare provider or caregiver is giving you the injection. Do not inject into an area of your body where your skin is irritated, red, bruised, or infected. The area you choose for injection should be at least 2 inches away from any scars or your belly button. Rotate injection sites to keep your skin healthy. Each new injection should be given at least 1 inch from the last site you used.
Clean your chosen injection site with an alcohol swab and allow it to dry. While holding the middle of the TAKHZYRO prefilled syringe firmly with one hand, gently pull the needle cap straight off with your other hand. Throw the needle cap away. Do not touch the needle or allow the needle to touch anything. You may see air bubbles; this is normal. Do not try to remove the air bubbles.
Now you’re ready to inject TAKHZYRO.
Grip your prefilled syringe in one hand, like a pencil. Avoid touching the needle or pushing on the plunger rod. With your other hand, gently pinch about a 1-inch fold of skin at the cleaned injection site and keep pinching until the injection is complete and the needle is removed.
Inject directly into the fatty layer under the skin (subcutaneous injection). With one quick, dart-like motion, push the needle all the way into your skin at a 45- to 90-degree angle, and make sure to keep the needle in place.
Slowly push the plunger rod all the way down until it stops. Do not withdraw the needle until all of the medicine is injected and the syringe barrel is empty. You will see the stopper at the bottom of the syringe barrel when the injection is complete.
Slowly pull the needle out while holding the syringe at the same angle. Gently release the fold of skin. If needed, press a cotton ball or gauze pad over the injection site, and hold it there for 10 seconds. You may also cover the injection site with an adhesive bandage.
When you’re finished, immediately throw away the used prefilled syringe in a sharps disposal container.
If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact your doctor, pharmacist, or nurse—they are there to help.
